My Story ...

IMG_20160527_203244778.jpg

Welcome to my website! I’m Debra Inman, a metalsmith and jeweler dedicated to crafting wearable art that merges traditional and contemporary techniques. My work incorporates inspiring gemstones, found objects, and the rich textures of the natural world, which serve as both my muse and my medium.

As an artist, I am drawn to abstraction and the intricate patterns found in nature. These elements inform my creative process, allowing me to explore the intersection of the mythic and cultural. By infusing each piece with symbolic meaning, I aim to create jewelry that is not only beautiful but also deeply personal—a journey of discovery for both myself and those who wear it.

A pivotal moment in my artistic journey came when I read Africa Adorned by Angela Fisher. This book profoundly shaped my understanding of how adornment reflects human identity and cultural expression. Inspired by this revelation, I embraced metalsmithing as a medium that satisfies both my intellectual curiosity and my desire to create with my hands.

My educational background includes a degree in Landscape Architecture from Southwestern College, San Diego Mesa College, and the University of California at Berkeley. I further honed my craft by completing the Graduate Jeweler program at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco. Additionally, I have had the privilege of learning from renowned artists such as Marne Ryan, Harold O’Connor, and Susan Lenart through transformative workshops that continue to inspire my practice.

Thank you for visiting!
